The California Child Care Licensing Resources for Parents and Providers website has been certified as compliant with California Government Code Sections 7405 and 11135, and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0, or a subsequent version: Web Accessibility Certification Document.
Further, web best practices were applied throughout this website, from semantic HTML to responsive design.
Accessibility Features
Below you will find a list of some of the technology solutions we have integrated to make our website easy to navigate, fast-loading and accessible.
“Skip To” Navigation
The “Skip to” navigation appears at the top of each page. It allows you to jump to the main content area.
Main Tabs
The main navigation uses lists. Lists make it easier for screen readers to read down the list without having to sort through unnecessary code. Lists also allow you to use the tab key to move from link to link.
Photographs/Images
Photographs and other relevant images on the site are accompanied by alternative text (the ALT attribute.) ALT text provides a written description of the image, which is accessible to screen readers, and it is visible when the mouse is placed over the image. This is also useful for people who have images turned off on their browser, in which case a description will display where the image used to be.
Video Transcripts
Videos embedded on this site offer three enhancements for richer accessibility. First, each video has captions which can be turned on using the standard YouTube player. Second, the user has the ability to switch video out for a version with a descriptive audio track. And lastly, printable transcripts are available for each video as well.
Color and Contrast
All text color/background color pairings have been tested with WebAIM’s Color Contrast Checker to ensure they pass the “WCAG AA” standard for readability.
